What is at the Temple of Phước Kiển of Đồng Tháp?
Coming to Phuoc Kien Pagoda, visitors will enjoy the fresh, cool and pure atmosphere. The temple has a spacious and airy space, combined with Buddha statues, makes the temple more lively and attractive.
However, what attracted and created the name Phuoc Kien Tu is that in the temple compound there is a strange and rare lotus species. According to the words, the king lotus leaf can withstand a maximum weight of 140 kg without sinking. It is for this reason that has sparked the curiosity of many people who want to come here to witness for themselves.
It is known that this lotus species appears in Phuoc Kien pagoda pond since 1992 until now. No one knows the exact name of this flower, so there are many different names. Some of them are called sen kings, others are called guns of nia, trees are full, …
So what makes this lotus capable of such a heavy weight? That’s because the lotus is about the size of an adult’s wrist. Mature lotus leaves have a diameter of up to 3 m. The edge of the leaf is high compared to the water surface about 2 – 5cm, which looks like a petticoat or a Northern sport strap.
The upper surface of the leaf is smooth with a light blue tone that is quite eye-catching. On the underside of the lotus leaves are larger and thinner, they are subdivided into squares of bright red when young and darken as the leaves grow older. In particular, in the floating season, the giant lotus species that grows in Phuoc Kien Pagoda will have 2.5 m wide leaves that easily “carry” the person weighing up to 140kg without any harm.
Therefore, you can take photos for yourself, virtual and unique photos. However, if you need to take photos on lotus leaf, you will have to pay a fee of 20,000 VND / person. You will have to walk from the bridge across the pond with a board to reach the lotus leaf. The board will have a holder to ensure you can secure the leaves.
Because lotus leaf is very brittle and easy to tear, if you want to stand up safely, put a thin tray of tin and then slowly step into the center. The best time to take a picture standing on a lotus leaf is around 9am, because the scenery is now more beautiful when it is sunny in the sun.
